Janice L. Wood

Janice is a native of Broome County. She is a self-taught artist who enjoyed drawing from a very early age. While she never had formal art training, she presented a very creative side all through school, college, and as a NYS Healthcare Administrator. She put her artistic pursuits on hold until her retirement in 2014.

Prior to her retirement, she was interested in the art and educational opportunities offered by the Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier (FASST). She became a member and was elected to serve on the Board of Directors. The Board then selected her as Board Treasurer and later as the Board President. The Board has been focusing on increasing art educational opportunities for members and the community.

Upon retirement Janice began taking workshops, attending demonstrations, and participating in trips to museums in the area to enhance her art knowledge and technique. While she prefers oil as her medium, she also experiments with pen, pencil, and acrylics. She continues to participate in educational programs and explores new venues to show her pieces.

Janice is motivated by what is happening in her life, the environment, local and world issues. Many pieces have a very emotional attachment and are expressed in a variety of subject matter. Some pieces appear out of the box while others are very traditional in their content and technique.

She has won awards and has exhibited at UHS, Binghamton General Hospital, Broome County Public Library, Broome County Arts Council, AVRE, Willow Point Nursing Home, Binghamton City Hall, Gallery 41, Owego, IBM Museum, 2015 Julyfest, and FASST Oakdale Mall Temporary Gallery.
