2012 ART ESSAY CONTEST
The Fine Arts Society of the Southern Tier Inc. (FASST) has been promoting the arts throughout the Southern Tier of New York for over 100 years. Our mission is to encourage growth and development of local artists. For the past several years our organization has been hosting a Young at Art juried show for local high school students with great success.
With the news coverage on school academics this year, the FASST Board decided to offer an art essay contest to allow the art students to express themselves in words versus a canvass. The FASST review panel was very pleased with the entries, We found that the students had no trouble expressing the importance of art in their lives. There were ten 10) winners and each received a $100 and a FASST Certificate of Achievement. We want to not only thank the winners but also all the students who participated for a job well done. The winners are:
Stephanie Zdimal, Chenango Forks High School
Ciara Blakeslee, Harpursville High School
Hye Ran (Rosa), Seo, Seton Catholic Central High School

Nicole Weeks, Newark Valley High School
Kaitlin Bartholomew, Vestal High School

Young at Art March 2010 Show
The FASST 7th annual Young at Art Show has once again been a success for all. Area students grades 9-12 entered approximately 94 quality works of art. Prizes and ribbons were awarded in five categories, thanks to generous sponsors of the event. Prizes totaled over $1000.00 in value for the 2010 show. In addition to prizes every winner received an art book donated by Lena Modlo in memory of past FASST Steve Modlo. The awards reception was held on March 12, 2010, at the FASST gallery. The gallery was left with standing room only, with over one hundred people attending. A Special thanks to the members that gave their time and helped out to make this another memorable event for the Young at Art Show students.
